Time and time again, Sight & Sound Theatres® in Branson has taken the world by storm with their sensational productions, massive sets, live animals, and state-of-the-art stage effects that can be seen live on stage or from home on Sight & Sound TV.
In previous years, Sight & Sound Theatres ® produced shows based off of the Bible and performed stories such as Noah, Jonah, and Samson. For 2021, Sight & Sound is giving rise to perhaps one of the most timeless and powerful stories of all – JESUS – in one truly spectacular performance brimming with inspiration, adventure, and miracle after miracle.
JESUS is not just another show, it’s an unforgettable experience, and it’s one you and your whole family can partake in this year with the show running from March 13 – December 31, 2021.
Interview with Katie Miller
We recently had an interview with Sight & Sound Theatres® Corporate Communication Manager, Katie Miller, who has worked for Sight & Sound for 30 years. As it happens, Katie is also the oldest grandchild of Sight & Sound’s founders. Katie has done everything within the company including Human Resources, Marketing, and Business Development. You many have even seen Katie on some Sight & Sound TV live broadcasts.
When asked about the new live show spectacular, Katie said JESUS is “the ultimate rescue story” that follows the highlights of Jesus’ journey in the Bible including the meeting of his twelve disciples. “We meet so many characters in this production and see who they were before and after an encounter with Jesus,” Katie explained. “There are so many moments that we all can relate to. And of course – this show has all the elements of a Sight & Sound experience! Live animals, massive sets – and the largest LED screen used in a theatrical setting in the world!”
Katie went on to tell us that a production as massive as JESUS can take over 3 years to produce and 6 weeks of rehearsing from the teams of performers. Speaking of performers, Katie said the production of JESUS includes a cast of 50 actors and various animals including camels, herds of sheep, donkeys, pigs and even horses that will trek up and down the aisles of the theater.
When asked how productions like JESUS – or any of the other shows produced out of Sight & Sound Theatres® – have affected audience members , Katie said people often see themselves in the characters and, furthermore, have the unique opportunity to experience the Bible with friends and family like never before.
“I think that’s one of the most inspiring and unexpected things that came out of any show is how much people see themselves in the characters. It has always been our hope at Sight & Sound to create opportunities where families and friends can come together to experience the Bible in a brand-new way. And yet we continue to be amazed by the way the Lord works through these stories.”
Such an amazing experience and story has the tendency to attract a large crowd which is why Katie said the theater plans to open for the 2021 season exactly how they closed —with reduced capacity and enhanced safety measures.
“We are leaving space to the right and left of parties while still seating every row in the theater,” Katie clarified. “We do not have an exact timeline, but it is our hope to return to full theater capacity at some point this year. We remain more committed than ever to creating the restful atmosphere that is essential to the Sight & Sound experience and we are continually updating the FAQs on our website.”
Katie said Sight & Sound is seeing shows “sell out” faster; especially with limited capacity. Katie recommends guests to plan their trips in advance or at least make plans to purchase tickets when they arrive in Branson.
The show runs a little over 2 hours and will have a time of intermission while the cast and crew prepares for the second half of the performance. The two acts go over parts of the New Testament which follow the story and miracles of Jesus including when Jesus fed the multitudes starting out with only two small fish and five loaves of bread and the epic, unforgettable moment when Jesus walked on water.
Each moment draws the audience in with dynamic sets, engaging characters, and unbelievable effects which appeal to the senses including sight, sound, and feeling. Viewers aren’t just watching another show in Branson, they are experiencing it.
“Sight & Sound is truly an immersive theater experience,” Katie said. “With a 300-foot wrap around stage, the largest LED screen in live theater, sets that are three stories and animals running through the aisles, our shows are designed to transport you right into the heart of the story!”
